Uskudar Ahmet III Fountain Located on the Asian Side of Istanbul in Uskudar Square across from the quay, this fountain ,which is welcoming face of Uskudar, was built by Ahmet III in 1728. It is in the classical Ottoman style. After many renovations throughout the years and after having been raised by 1.5 meter during landfill work along the coast of Marmara Sea in 1955, it has finally arrived in its present position. Inscribed on the side that faces the square are verses by the famous Divan poet, Nedim; on the wall facing the mosque there are excerpts from the poet Rahmi and on another wall those from the poet Sâkir. On the wall facing the Bosphorus you can read verses inspired by Ahmed III and his son-in-law, Nevsehirli Ibrahim Pasa, written in calligraphy by Ahmet III. Source: http://www.uskudar.bel.tr |
